Restaurant Orpí: Love at First Bite

Some places quietly settle into your heart. You visit once, perhaps out of curiosity, and before you know it, everything that follows is measured against that one experience. For us, that place is without a doubt restaurant Castell d’Orpí — our absolute number one in our region, where we regularly return to enjoy its warm hospitality and an exclusive lunch.

Restaurant Orpí: Love at First Bite

What truly makes Orpí special is that you are dining in a place where history is deeply embedded in the stones itself. The restaurant is housed in an impressive castle, one of the best-preserved and most characterful fortresses in the Anoia region.

Castell d’Orpí already appears in historical documents dating back to 987 and 1005. Towering proudly above the surrounding landscape and strategically positioned on a cliff overlooking the Torrent de Morei stream, the castle once controlled the area and offered protection against invaders. Its most striking architectural feature is the unique six-sided (sisavada) tower, dating from the 10th–11th century — a true rarity in Catalonia.

During the Middle Ages, the castle fell under the influence of powerful families. In the 12th century, the Marqueses of Claramunt played an important role, after which Castell d’Orpí became closely connected to the Counts of Cardona, one of the most influential noble houses in Catalonia. The Orpí family themselves served as ´castellans´ in the 13th century, acting as the castle lords responsible for its daily governance and defense.

In later centuries, the castle continued to play a significant role. During the Spanish succession war , Castell d’Orpí became a refuge for Catalan troops in 1714. That decision did not go unanswered: the castle was bombarded by Bourbon forces, traces of conflict that still resonate in the story of this place today.

Today, Castell d’Orpí is a protected historical monument, respectfully transformed into a country estate and exclusive restaurant. And perhaps that is the most beautiful part of all: a place once dedicated to defense and power now fully devoted to hospitality, tranquillity, and enjoyment.

And then.. there is the food. No unnecessary embellishment, but honest, delicious farmhouse cuisine that shows just how rich simplicity can be. Each dish tells a story of the land, of the seasons, and of deep respect for ingredients. This is food that comforts, surprises, and lingers — precisely because of its purity. You can taste the care and love with which everything is prepared.

For us, the tapas evenings at Orpí have an extra golden glow. Together with our guests from Torre Nova, we have shared evenings here that cannot be planned — they simply unfold. Long tables, shared dishes, meaningful conversations, and laughter that carries on late into the night. These are the moments that remind you that gastronomy is not just about food, but about connection.

Much of that magic is thanks to the owners, Pepita and cook Alex. Time and again, they succeed in combining something truly rare: culinary exclusivity with genuine hospitality. You never feel like a customer here, but truly welcome. Seen. At home — in a place that is anything but ordinary. Their passion lives in the details, the atmosphere, and the way they welcome guests and invite them into their culinary world.

For us, Restaurant Orpí is not just another restaurant. Surrounded by nature, the green hills, and silence, it feels as though time moves just a little more slowly here. A memory in the making, every single time. And that is exactly why it remains our absolute favourite.

Between lights and modernisme: LLums de Sant Pau

The Hospital de Sant Pau is beautiful during the day, but takes on a completely new character at night. This is certainly true for LLums de Sant Pau, the annual light festival at the Hospital de Sant Pau in Barcelona. Our visit felt like walking through a living work of art.
