Penedès bike & winetour: cava, vineyards and wow moments

One of the things we love most is introducing our guests at Torre Nova Resort to the hidden gems of our region. And let's be honest: sometimes we rediscover them ourselves! At the end of August, we hopped on our bikes again for a tour with Bikemotions in Lavern – and as usual, we had a wonderful time.

Penedès bike & winetour: cava, vineyards and wow moments

The day started sunny and radiant, perfect cycling weather. Bikemotions provided us with a comfortable e-bike, so navigating the hills of El Penedès was no problem at all. You can opt for a guided tour, but we prefer the self-guided tour. You get a great Google Maps tour via whatsapp, and as soon as we left Lavern, we were surrounded by a sea of vineyards: endless rows of vines stretching across the rolling hills. The scent of grapes hangs in the air, and in August, you can see the harvest approaching everywhere.

The route takes you not only through vineyards but also past picturesque villages in the Subirats region. One of the highlights is a stop in Sant Pau d’Ordal, a charming village famous for its peaches. It's wonderful to stop and explore, have a coffee in a village square, and soak up the tranquility so typical of this part of Catalonia.

Along the way, you'll make several stops at bodegas for tastings—not just the big names like Bodegas Llopart, but also small, family-run wineries like Albet i Noya, Celler Eudals Massana, or Coma Romá. You'll learn how cava is made, see the cellars where the bottles mature for years, and, of course, get to taste the different cavas and wines. This makes the trip extra special: you'll feel and taste the passion of the winemakers themselves.

After a few hours of cycling and tasting, it was time for a delicious lunch at El Mirador de les Caves. The name says it all: from the terrace, you look out over the vineyards and, in the distance, the magical mountain of Montserrat, a view that never gets old. Here, we enjoyed a long, relaxed lunch with fresh Catalan dishes and—how could it be otherwise—a glass of local cava.

As we cycled back to Lavern at the end of the afternoon, we not only had a few kilometers under our belts but also a head full of impressions. This is the perfect combination of nature, culture, exercise, and gastronomy. No wonder so many of our guests book this tour and return enthusiastically.

Whether you're an athletic cyclist or simply looking for a relaxing day out, thanks to the e-bikes, the tour is accessible to everyone. For us, this was yet another of the most beautiful days of the summer—and we recommend it to anyone staying at Torre Nova!

Big heads and even bigger stories – the Capgrossos of Catalonia

A narrow village street, the sound of drums and flutes, and a parade of people dressed up with exaggerated, large heads—Capgrossos—who wink at children and tease the audience with theatrical gestures. In Catalonia, these "large heads" are as much a part of a Festa Major (summer festival) as the Gegants (giants), Castells (human castles), or the fireworks spectacle of Correfoc (running fire). But listening to their story reveals not only the laughter of the parade but also a long history of ritual, identity, and regional pride.
