Every village and town celebrates a summer festival between May and October. Traditional colorful parades, music and fireworks, 'Castellers' (human towers), music, dance and food are the ingredients for an authentic experience. In La Torre de Claramunt the festa major is held late June. Spectacular other festivals in Igualada, Vilafranca del Penedès, Sitges and the Gracia district of Barcelona.
'Walking Fire' is an old Catalan tradition in which fire, dragons and the devil play a key role. You can enjoy the Correfoc during the summer festivals.
In this Catalan food festival the grilled 'Calcot' plays a key role. It's a type of green onion that is grown only in Catalonia. The season runs from January to mid April. Torre Nova organizes 'Calçotadas' each spring. One of the most spectacular calçotadas is taking place at the end of January in Valls (at 1 hour of Torre Nova)
Vilafranca del Penedès (15 minutes form Torre Nova) is the setting for this unique, innovative festival that combines the world of wine with jazz music. This event, which takes place the 7th and 8th of July 2012, brings together a wide variety of Penedès Designation of Origin wines and sparkling wines, and jazz music. There are free concerts, as well as a range of parallel activities related with wine and gastronomy: films, conferences, wine tasting courses, winery visits, exhibitions..
This spectacular festival takes place each July in Igualada (15 minutes from Torre Nova). 60 balloons in competition, every morning and evening. As a bonus the 'night glow'. This year from the 7th till the 10th of July.
Every July a special evening with outdoor Catalan concerts in the unique setting of the Castell de Claramunt (5 minutes from Torre Nova). This year on the 16th of July.
The Easter week traditionally is the most important week of the year in Spain. Everywhere you come across colourful processions. In the nearby town of Esparreguerra there is every year a performance of the Easter story. "La Passió" plays in March and April.
Around Christmas many of the old village centers transform into a recreated Bethlehem, complete with crib and traditional professions. 'Reyes' (Epiphany) on January 6th, is the Spanish equivalent of Santa Claus, with parades and lots of gifts and sweets for the children.
